The next BCal Flight Deck & Cabin Crew Reunion is on
Friday 29th September 2023
The 2022 reunion, which was held on the traditional date of the last Friday in September, was thoroughly enjoyed by the 125 people who attended the event.
Earlier in 2022, all those on our reunion e-mailing list were sent emails asking if they would prefer a change of timing from an evening event (as it has been for over forty years) to a lunchtime event. However, with replies from less than 10% of people surveyed (on two separate occasions), no conclusion could be drawn so, in 2022 the reunion remained an evening event, albeit starting at 6:30pm instead of the usual 7pm.
We will attempt to carry out another survey of the (over 400) people on our emailing list to ask, again, what timing they would prefer for the next reunion. Comments were made to us at the 2022 reunion that 8pm is rather late to have a big meal and we know that some of the older members of the crew community would prefer not to drive in the dark, so chose not to attend an evening event at the time of year when it is dark by 7:30pm.
The reunion committee are concerned that it is difficult for us to advertise the annual reunion to all those former BCal Flight Deck and Cabin Crew who are not on our e-mailing list. We would like to acknowledge the help given to us in publicising the reunion by Dave Thaxter, who runs the excellent www.british-caledonian.com website as well as a Facebook group called ‘The British Caledonian Group’. Dave kindly includes a reference to our reunion in his twice-monthly ‘Staff Newsletter’ email that can be subscribed to by contacting him by email on BCalatribute@outlook.com.
We periodically post details of the reunion on the other three BCal Facebook groups, which are: ‘BCal Family’, ‘British Caledonian Airways’, and ‘BCalReunited. BCal/BUA’. However, because these posts are usually only visible for a short period of time, it is better to periodically check our website and, best of all, to ask us to add your email address to our emailing list.
Please pass on details of our www.bcalreunion.org website to any of your former BCal crew colleagues that you are still in contact with and who you think may be interested in attending the annual reunion.
Last year, many of those people who are on our emailing list must have changed their email address because there were many ‘undelivered’ messages returned to us. The three-year gap since the previous full reunion in 2019 caused by the pandemic hasn’t helped this situation.
To check whether you are on our emailing list, look for an email that was sent out on 12 August 2022 giving details of how to buy tickets. If you haven’t received this email from ‘BCAL REUNION’ (bcalreunion@gmail.com) with the Subject of ‘BCAL REUNION TICKET SALES’, then, after checking your Junk folder, send an email to us at bcalreunion@gmail.com and ask to be added to the emailing list.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday 29 September 2023
